Alli Butler: 40 Year Old Popstar

Celebrity, hair-removal and rock’n’roll motherhood…

NEWSFLASH! Comedian, singer and ex-nurse Alli Butler has given up the day job she didn’t have to pursue becoming a 40 Year Old Popstar.

And that – conveniently - is also the title of her show, playing at the SYDNEY FRINGE FESTIVAL 6-10 September in the Boom Boom Room at the Emerging Artist Sharehouse in Erskineville.

Having already left her night job—which she did have— as the Sydney Opera House nurse, where she tended the headaches, depressed rants and ingrown toenails of international superstars, Butler has decided being a celeb looks a whole lot brighter than looking after one.

“I waved my sphygmomanometer goodbye and embarked on a pop career of my own,” said Butler.

Never mind being 40. Never mind she refuses to do botox (yet…) — and never mind she’s flown from WA to launch this new phase of her career from her flat in ‘show-your-bottom Bondi’ where everyone is a star already.

40 Year Old Pop Star - a standout, stand-up comedy - sold out in multiple venues at Perth’s 2020 Fringeworld, and in regional venues across WA in a subsequent tour. Now it’s Sydney’s turn!

Interspersed with her any-day-now chart-topping songs, Butler tells of her perilous trajectory towards superstardom in a music industry that insists you lie about your age — something this star— a powerhouse of principle — refuses to do! (yet...)

She also refuses to remove every last hair follicle from her body in a laser zapping frenzy, because Butler, who is environmentally aware, believes in protecting the bush.

So, climb aboard this roller coaster comedy ride as Alli Butler sings, strums guitar and raves on about her life as an ex-nurse, mother, occasional wife, and imminent superstar.

Biography Alli Butler is a comedian who has performed at major Australian comedy venues including The Comedy Store in Sydney and The Butterfly Club in Melbourne. She is a singer-songwriter whose song Fire in my Heart was recently a semi-finalist in the Unsigned Only music competition. Alli has also acted in musicals and TV shows including All Saints when they buried her in a box (true story).
