Bendigo Chamber Choir sings Haydn's Nelson Mass

About

The Bendigo Chamber Choir and Orchestra will perform Haydn's Nelson Mass on Saturday May 11th 5pm in the Sacred Heart Cathedral Bendigo.

There are four wonderful soloists - Louise Clarke soprano, Emily Bauer-Jones alto, Timothy Reynolds tenor and Peter Hunt bass. The performance is directed by Michael Bottomley.

The Nelson Mass opens with a strong and fiery Kyrie which is in a minor key but generally for the other parts of the mass the music is joyful and brilliant with the occasional military tendencies provided by the three trumpets and timpani.

The program will also include Samuel Barber's 'Agnus Dei' which is a vocal arrangement of his 'Adagio for Strings'. The concert concludes with a current english composer Will Todd's 'Jazz Missa Brevis'. This work uses different jazz styles (swinging waltz, up-beat Latin-grove and a ballad) to convey the texts of the Latin Mass.

Ticket prices are $30 and a concession price of $25.
