Peninsula Music Society presents Melbourne Chamber Orchestra - Crystalline Voices

TIMO-VEIKKO VALVE Cello & Guest Director

MELBOURNE CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

Peninsula Music Society would love you to join us and our old friends, the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra to celebrate last month's Winter Solstice and its promise of new beginnings.

Timo-Veikko Valve (Tipi to his friends) left Helsinki 17 years ago to become Principal Cello of Australian Chamber Orchestra. Since then he’s continuously travelled across Australia and the globe delighting audiences on his 400 year old cello. As the guest curator, director and soloist, Tipi has chosen for this concert is a beautiful depiction of his Finnish nationality, his time in Australia, his love of the cello and devotion to chamber music. Tipi envisions Melbourne Chamber Orchestra as an enormous chamber ensemble: Schubert’s iconic Arpeggione Sonata is cast as a cello concerto, and Sibelius’ virtuosic Intimate Voices string quartet is performed by the whole orchestra.

Reflective works by Ida Moberg from Finland and Olivia Bettina-Davies from Australia, and echoes of Australian legend Peter Sculthorpe, complete a captivating concert experience.
