Bella Italia (Sunday 8 September 2024)

Bella Italia (Sunday 8 September 2024)
Description

Conductor - Michael Milton
Piano - Stephen van der Hoek

Over the centuries, Italy has left its mark on the folks who visit its sunny shores. We explore the countryside with Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky, finding infectious folk melodies and languorous love songs. Rossini sparkles with his characteristic wit and vigour, the quintessential Italian entertainer. Then, from one virtuoso to another, Rachmaninoff thrills us with his take on Paganini’s famous 24th violin Caprice. Stephen van der Hoek joins us on piano to talk with his hands like an Italian.

* Mendelssohn - Symphony No. 4 Italian

* Tchaikovsky - Capriccio Italien

* Rossini - Overture to The Italian Girl in Algiers
* Rachmaninoff - Variations on a Theme of Paganini

Session time: 2.30pm, Sunday 8 September 2024

All seating is general admission. You will need to select either stalls or dress circle when booking. Note that the dress circle has limited visibility to the front of the orchestra and is only accessible by stairs.

For the comfort of others, we kindly ask that children 12 and under are supervised by an adult at all times and remain quiet while the orchestra is performing.
